How the Days Look

Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to the hotel

Welcome to Almaty—check in to your hotel and recharge before the trip starts.

Day 2: Try skiing!

Head into the mountains for a full day on the slopes. Start at Medeu, the famous high-altitude ice rink, then take the gondola to Shymbulak. Ski wide, groomed runs, warm up in cafés, and later return to the city for a relaxed walk along Arbat Street with music, bakeries, and small shops.

Day 3: Natural Wonders

Set out early for Charyn Canyon and walk the Valley of Castles—wind-shaped red towers above the river. Stop at Moon Canyon and Black Canyon for quiet viewpoints and great photos. After lunch, continue to Kolsay Lake for a calm lakeside walk and mountain views. By evening, arrive in Saty/Kurmeti, check into your guesthouse, and enjoy the village pace.

Day 4: Sunken Forest

Travel to Kaindy Lake, the teal alpine lake with a “sunken forest” of silver trunks. Ride a Soviet-era military bus (local 4×4) to the trailhead, then take a short forest walk to the viewpoints for photos and quiet time. Return to Almaty by evening to rest.

Day 5: Winter Escape

Oi-Qaragai (Lesnaya Skazka): Spend the afternoon in the mountains—try the zipline, rope park, tubing, or snowmobiles. For a gentler pace, choose horseback riding and easy walks through the pine forest. Unwind in cozy chalets and enjoy local cuisine.

Day 6: City Tour & Departure

Dive into Almaty’s culture and history: admire wooden churches, Soviet mosaics, modern architecture, and vibrant street life. Visit the city’s most iconic landmarks, markets, and art spaces. Enjoy your final afternoon at leisure before the evening transfer to the airport

I did this tour in June 2025, and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip to Kazakhstan. I wanted to visit both Tanbaly and Tamgaly Tas on the same day, and the company was incredibly responsive and flexible in organizing everything at short notice.
